The City of Cres is becoming a leading example of how local communities can drive real-world energy transformation. Through the ISLET project, islanders are showing that a sustainable and self-sufficient energy transition based on renewable sources is achievable. The PET team (Platform for Energy Transition) delegation was received at the City Hall by Mayor Marin Gregorovi\u0107, who emphasized that Cres is taking an active role in implementing European energy goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ISLET Project \u2013 An Example of an Integrated Approach<\/h2>\n\n\n\n


The ISLET Cres project, funded by the European Union\u2019s LIFE Programme, develops innovative models for engaging citizens, institutions, and businesses in local energy production. The project promotes the formation of energy communities and collective self-supply, enabling citizens to become both producers and consumers (\u201cprosumers\u201d). Cres serves as one of the pilot areas exploring how technology, education, and social engagement can together create a sustainable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cooperation and Knowledge Sharing Among Islands<\/h2>\n\n\n\n


During the visit, Franjo Toi\u0107 from the Apsyrtides Cooperative and Ugo Toi\u0107 from the Island Development Agency OTRA presented projects that empower islanders through renewable energy and digitalisation. Special focus was placed on the ISLET Cres project \u2014 an initiative that connects local stakeholders and European partners while developing models that can inspire and guide other Croatian islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Law Encourages Local Projects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n


With the adoption of the new Renewable Energy Sources Act in 2025, Croatia raised its national renewable energy target to 42.5% by 2030. This framework enables faster development of energy communities and projects like ISLET Cres, which bridge European directives with local action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Islands as Drivers of Change<\/h2>\n\n\n\n


The ISLET Cres project confirms that islands are not energy-isolated territories but rather innovative laboratories showing the direction of the future transition. The combination of technology, community spirit, and shared vision makes Cres a prime example of how local initiatives can create a sustainable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
