Representatives of the Pokret Otoka association met with Zdenko Kirinčić and discussed the replication of the model of energy communities developed through the ISLET project for the island of Krk
On the island of Krk, on October 4, 2024, a meeting was held in which participated Zdenko Kirinčić, Ugo Toić, Maja Jurišić and Ivan Zoković . The main topic was the possibility of adapting the model of energy communities developed through the ISLET project for the island of Krk.
The Islet project
The ISLET project aims to establish energy communities on small Mediterranean islands. This includes Krk, with an emphasis on the use of renewable energy sources. On Krk, the energy cooperative Island of Krk has already played a key role in raising awareness of the importance of solar energy. This led to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.
OTOK KRK ENERGIJA d.o.o. is currently developing a solar power plant project. The construction of a wind farm is also planned. Recapitalization of the company is also being considered to enable the local community’s participation in the ownership structure, which would encourage greater economic cooperation.
The SIK initiative
denko Kirinčić presented the SIK (Smart Island Krk) initiative. The initiative wants to turn Krk into a smart island using smart networks and energy-efficient solutions. This will support the energy transition towards renewable energy sources.
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that formal possibilities for cooperation between the ISLET project and local initiatives will be considered. Also, special attention will be paid to the education of citizens and the development of solar projects in order to ensure the long-term energy self-sustainability of the island of Krk.
The ISLET project was financed by the LIFE program.
